Listening: Well, I finally managed to break, at least temporarily, my Silversun Pickups addiction. It required a potent cocktail of the new Killers album, the latest Luomo album, and several listens through The Shondes’ The Red Sea. Now I talked about the Killers album last week, and it’s just grown on me since. But the surprise find of the week was this band Luomo. Maybe it’s just me, but until I ran across a tweet on Jeph Jacques’ twitter feed about their album Convivial. He mentioned that it’s a blend of good modern techno and vocal house, both things of which …

David Spade will forever have a special place in my heart for what he did in the movie Tommy Boy. I’m not sure if it was his creation, but in that movie, Spade delivered a line that added one of my favorite words to the english language: My fellow nerds and I will retire to the nerdery with our calculators. I saw the movie back in high school when it was in the theater. Immediately—I mean, before we had gotten out of our seats—we were using “nerdery” to refer to our pack of nerds . It’s like there was a linguistic void waiting to be filled, one that we had somehow never noticed before, and that term came to our …

After seeing how Google spreadsheets could be used as part of quick online mashup at the recent Mashed Library, Paul revised this observation along the lines of “the online spreadsheet do for web development what the spreadsheet did for non-web development before it”. In An Ad Hoc Youtube Playlist Player Gadget, Via Google Spreadsheets , I showed how a Google gadget can be used as a container for arbitrary Javascript code that can be used to process the contents of one or more Google spreadsheet cells, …

But, somehow we are running into PHP.NET Bug #44522 and the upload stops somehow. Yesterday I was hunting for a fix of this.
Dear LazyWeb… I like to know how Bugzilla’s being talked about out in the world, so I subscribe to Google’s handy news and blog alert services where you can put in keywords and they’ll send you an email every time a new blog or news article shows up containing that/those keywords. This works really well, except that you also get a bunch of crap with it. People who post to message boards with “Bugzilla” as a username. Message posts on insect websites about this huge bug someone found. Articles about modified VW Beetles that have been turned into monster trucks. Every mention in anyone’s blog about bug reports for any number of major projects that use Bugzilla for their bug …

The MOOV atom is in essence a block of data, containing an index of the rest of the file. Most authoring tools will place this data on the end of the file, because the size of the block will have to change dynamically as changes are made to the video.
